Boris Johnson’s last present for Property Managers
What is new for the property and housing industry?
Greg Clarke, MP for Tunbridge Wells, has been appointed secretary of state for housing by Boris Johnson.
Michael Gove was sacked last night by the PM for ‘disloyalty’.
Despite his White Paper not being well received by many landlords, Gove brought a more thoughtful and proactive approach to the housing market’s reform.
As a result of Andrew Stuart’s resignation from the Department of Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC), ministerial vacancies remain.
The only housing minister at the DLUHC for a while was Eddie Hughes, who kept quiet during yesterday’s resignations.
Prior to his appointment as Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy in 2019, Clarke served briefly in the housing department during David Cameron’s government.
Despite an expected resignation announcement later today, the PM has been appointing new ministers to replace those who have departed in recent days. Johnson will become caretaker PM until his party elects a new leader – but the new leader is unlikely to retain Johnson’s cabinet.
Aside from speaking at a CapitalLetters affordable housing conference in London and tweeting in support, Hughes has been keeping his head down.
No mention of the poisonous political backdrop was made at the conference during which he announced £14m in funding for the homeless housing organization.
